Introduction
Even if today internationally operating premium wine producers such as Torres or Rothschild are important figureheads of the Chilean wine industry, right now there are a host of major national producers that have long been established and who conquered a place in the national Chilean wine world. With the significant investments that have been made in the Chilean viticulture in the last two decades, the wine country has the best conditions for an international top position in the league of the most important wine countries.

1) Product: Big Cirrus Chardonnay
Where to buy at lowest prices: Wineinsiders
Vintage: 2014
Bottle: 750 ml
Region: Valle Central
Alcohol: 13.5%
Rating: 82/100
Price: $19.99
Tasting notes
Big Cirrus flaunts green apple and citrus zest flavours in a slightly vibrant but full mouth feel. The finish is clean and smooth, with a short linger on the palate. If you prefer Chardonnays of a crisper nature, then Big Cirrus Single Estate is your next white wine to try.
Winery’s notes
Chilean Chardonnays are different from the ones produced in California. Most Chardonnays from Chile have a far closer zesty style than the creamy, silky style of their California counterparts. This is due to the grapes being picked earlier, capturing the green essence of the world’s most popular white wine varietal.

Hi Jerry,
Great information about those Chilean Chardonnays. I’m not sure about the “chalk” or “Slate” taste in the Errazuriz Chardonnay Wild Ferment, but the last selection Santa Carolina Chardonnay Reserva de Familia sounds real nice. Do you have a favorite? Cheers
Hi Ed, I live in Thailand and Chilean Chardonnays are scarce to get here. However, there is a great selection of Australian Chardonnays, such as Taras, Jacob’s Creek and Penfold’s Rawson’s Retreat, the latter one being of excellent quality. In fact, because we have a limited selection here, I started this site to share these wines but also to gain more knowledge of the enormous number and varieties of Chardonnays around. You are welcome to share your favourites here as well. Cheers, Jerry
