Wine reviews – Australia Chardonnays for the UK and outside

By | June 30, 2015

Introduction

Australia ranks in the top tier when it comes to the production and sale of wine on the international market. This is a rather surprising fact considering that wine making in Australia only started in the 1800’s, compared to a number of other countries that had been in the business of wine production way before the first settlers arrived on Australian australia wines reviewsoil and started the practice.

Today, different varieties of Australian red wine and white wine can be found in major wine outlets the world over, some commanding as high a price as some of their famous European counterparts. Especially some of the Chardonnay wines produced Down Under can compete with the best in the world.

See my review of some of Australia’s top rated Chardonnays hereunder. All wines have been rated, see details of how the rating is done here.

The wines below will be delivered through Perfect Cellar who sell this one on line and to which I am affiliated. If you are interested in the wines reviewed, just click the banners on this page and then go to all wines>Chardonnay.

Latest: PerfectCellar discontinued their services, hence their wines will no longer be reviewed here.

Feel free to ask any questions or leave a comment and I will be back to you within 24 hours.

I am a fan of Australian wine too. There is something special about it, where grapes are sort of giving a taste of the land. I am located in Canada and I enjoy a glass of Chardonnay when available. I found this article informative because it is not just a Australian wine but Chardonnays especially. I appreciate the rating chart as well.

Hi Jennifer, Australia is one of those New World countries, such as USA, Chile, New Zealand and S-Africa that are producing world class Chardonnays. Through my website and the help of others I am trying to find the best Chardonnays from all over the world. Cheers, Jerry

What a great site and great write-ups and reviews on these wines. Who would have thought there was so much to cover on Australian Chardonnay. The flavours are explained really well. I can almost taste them as I’m reading which means you’ve done a great job. If I drank more wine I would definitely try this out.

    Hi Jerry,

Your website if full of knowledge when it comes to wine. I have grabbed a lot of knowledge from this website. Before buying wine, it is important to check this website to learn what is inside.

For example, one can know the price of the wine and alcohol content before purchasing. This will save us a lot of time.

I didn’t know Australia was big on wine production! Well you learn something new every day 🙂
I’m in South Africa and our country is also big on wine production but not sure how much is exported.
I see you ship to UK, Europe and International but not USA.
Do you ship to South Africa?

Hi there, yes Australia is part of the New World wine countries, such as S-Africa, Chile, New Zealand and the USA, that have emerged recently to take their place on the global scene next to the Old World ones like France, Italy and Spain. On my site I presented the worlds best Chardonnays, which is dominated by Australian wines. Some excellent Chardonnays from Stellenbosch and Overberg also are in there. I live in Thailand, but regularly drink S-African reds and Chardonnays. I would confirm that greatwinedirect will also ship to S-Africa, just ask them for a price. Cheers, Jerry

I know you site is based on Chardonnay but I was wondering if I could coax your opinion on an Australian red we ( my partner and I ) had given to us as a gift not long ago.
The wine is McGuigan Black Label and we recently went out and purchased a box full due to how impressed we were.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the winemaker ( if you have any! )
    Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris, being the #1 selling bottle of red wine in Australia, the McGuigan Black Label Red, vintage 2013 is a classic blend of red wine renowned for its rich fruit flavours and a smooth mouth filling finish. It has a very soft, some say sweet taste. It is rated very high by many. McGuigan Wines originally started in Hunter Valley. They are the only winery in the world to have won ‘world’s best winemaker’ three times.

I cannot remember having drunk this wine, but I certainly can remember drinking their 2012 Chardonnay several times, which was a pleasant experience. Cheers, Jerry

Great Wines Direct definitely have a fantastic range of wines available!! 🙂 and as always your descriptions are very helpful and easily understood. Mushrooms and roasted nuts….? Isn’t it amazing the aromas you find in wine these days? Again, a very informative post here, and a brilliant site for any wine lover. Well done 🙂
