Introduction
In the heart of California is a fertile plain, which is slightly inland, parallel to the Pacific Ocean. On the other side of the valley is the Sierra Nevada mountains. This Central Valley region, and especially from the areas Lodi and San Joaquin, produces more than half of all wines coming from California, .
The wines that this valley, with its predominantly Mediterranean climate, produces are firm and full, with lots of colour and alcohol. They present some nice surprises for Chardonnay wines.
Let me introduce you to some of the fine Chardonnays from Central Valley in the following reviews and ratings. The wines can be delivered through Wine.com, the number wine retailer in the USA, which can be accessed by pressing the links on this page.
Kindly note that you can find an explanation on the ratings indicated here.

Wine Tasting Notes
Chardonnay grapes grown in Clarksburg are known for their characteristic apple and pear aromas and flavours. Bogle winemakers have captured these refreshing and ripe notes while allowing them to develop and intensify through stainless steel fermentation.Additional grapes are vinted using the techniques of barrel fermentation, sur-lies ageing and partial malolactic fermentation, which creates an elegant counterpart to the fresh fruit with tones of spicy vanilla and nutmeg. The creamy mouth feel adds just the final touch on the finish, reminiscent of an apple and pear galette.
Wine Makers Notes
Although the Bogle family has been farming since the 1800’s, it wasn’t until 1968 that the father and son team of Warren and Chris Bogle planted their first 20 acres of wine grapes in Clarksburg, California. Clarksburg is a small farming community nestled in the Sacramento Delta. Today Bogle Vineyards farms over 1,000 acres of wine grapes in the Delta region. While the winery was established ten years after the first grapes were planted, it has grown tremendously along with the vineyards. Bogle Winery is currently producing 100,000 cases of wine. Winemaker Christopher Smith joined the winery in 1992. He sources fruit from some of the best vineyards throughout the State of California and blends that fruit with the best grapes from our Estate Vineyards in Clarksburg.

I am not much of a wine person I find them too dry. Are Chardonnay dry like wine? The only wine I have every liked was a fortified wine from Portugal though I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me.
Hi Derek, thanks for your reaction. Yes Chardonnay wines are mostly dry. Cheers, Jerry
Hi, Jerry
I’m not a massive wine drinker but Iove a glass of Chardonnay from time to time 🙂 However, my mom really likes her Chardonnay and she too will love this review on the different types. I’ll make sure to pass this article on to her. Thanks. Neil
Thank you Neil for your reaction. Your mother might love the various kinds of Chardonnay wines I am offering. Just let me know which are her favourites and maybe I can help her to get to know more Chardonnays she might like. Cheers, jerry
very professional reviews – thank you for sharing this Jerry,
my favorite btw would be the Montevina Chardonnay
Thanks for your reaction Eli. There is a wide variety of Chardonnays and with this website I trying to capture the best. I have not yet tasted the Montevina, but I will as soon as I get the chance. Cheers, Jerry
Hi Jerry, great post on Chardonnay wine . Is Chardonnay wine is a white wine? Sorry for asking, I am just curious cause I’m no expert on this at all at this.
Hi Dominic, thank you for your comment. Yes, Chardonnay is white wine and is made from the most popular white grape, the Chardonnay. This is a variety that is most widely planted throughout the world, as it can easily adapt to the prevailing climate at location. Great Chardonnays come from France, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, South-Africa and of course from the USA. Chardonnays from California, in particular from Napa and Sonoma, can compete with the best in the world. Cheers, Jerry
I came across a really gorgeous Californian Chardonnay way back but I can’t for the life of me remember what part of California it came from. If someone could enlighten me I’d appreciate it, because I haven’t seen it since. I’d remember it because the label was quite distinctive. It was an old style cartoon drawing of a gentleman toad with a glass in his hand. It was called Toad something or other. Any help on it?
Hello Eoin, thanks for your reaction. I think I can help you. The wine you are talking about could be the 2013 Toad Hollow Vineyards – Francine’s Selection Chardonnay from Mendocino, North Coast. The ratings on this wine are indeed great. In fact you can find all the details in my product review no. 2 here. Cheers, Jerry
