Fourty Historical, Wise and/or Funny Wine Quotes

By | August 25, 2015

Introduction

Wine has been here for a long time and the history of wine dates back to 3000 BC. From then on, traces and images of viticulture have been recovered. As you go back in time it appears that many historical celebrities enjoyed, just like we do now, a glass of wine, even became (too) big fans of it. Jerry, what a good fun post. I have a few for you.

Don’t throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces. Leftover wine – HELLO !

An Aussie yobbo definition: fair drinkum: good quality wine.

Sexist (author unknown or afraid to be exposed): Men are like a fine wine; start out like grapes, a woman stomps on them and keeps them in the dark until they mature enough to have dinner with.

On a Swiss restaurant menu: Our wines leave you nothing to hope for.

I will be back to renew my taste for wine.

Hi Jada, I think that when so many people, including famous ones, are inspired by wine to come up with quotes like these, then there is definitely something special about it. Some call it the drink of the gods and others life’s elixir. The fact that this post has been included in this website has to do with the unique character of Chardonnay being the queen under the white grapes. Recently this wine has become more and more popular.

    Ha ha! Great post!

I come from a family of wine drinkers that have particularly appreciated one or two of those quotes!

Can I ask when it comes to Chardonnay were you one of the ones that loved the old school oaked chardonnays or are you much more keen on the newer style?

Hi Hannah, sounds good, a family of wine drinkers. As I frequently drank Chardonnays from Australia before and came to like them very much, I guess I liked old style Chardonnay from the New World. Although I must say that I very much like lightly oaked and full bodied Chard. Which ones are your favourites? Have you seen my top 25 of worldwide best? Have a look here. Cheers, Jerry

Hi Dominic, yes wine brings out the best in people as long as it is drunk in moderation. My sources are news papers, magazines and of course the internet. In a world without wine, dinner with friends would end as soon as the bill came! Cheers, Jerry
